Pauline Tufi SoftballAnchorage’s Pauline Tufi has been recognized by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association after her remarkable rookie season at Louisiana Tech.

The softball star was named to the LSWA’s first team all-state collegiate all-star team at the utility position after seeing time at first base and pitcher.

Tufi, of West High fame, set a Louisiana Tech freshman single-season record with 34 RBIs this season. She hit .281 in 52 games, with 10 doubles, a triple and four home runs.

The 5-foot-10 right-handed hitter led the NCAA D1 team with 67 total bases.

In the circle, she went 13-10 with a 3.43 ERA in 140.2 innings. She struck out 113 batters and recorded shutouts against Florida Atlantic and Southern Miss.

After the season, she was named to the all-freshman team in Conference USA. Now she’s a first-team all-Louisiana pick.

In high school, Tufi was a three-time winner of the Gatorade Alaska Player of the Year award. As a senior she hit .842. She’s as good, if not better, than any softball player to come out of this state.
