Rachel Topf VolleyballWhen State University of New York at Potsdam needed a new setter, the Bears turned to Rachel Topf of Eagle River.

Just a freshman, she has responded like a veteran.

Topf leads the team in assists and is only one of two players to play in all 44 sets this year for the 5-6 Bears entering this weekend’s Oswego Invitational in New York.

The 5-foot-6 starter has racked up 264 assists for an average of six per set. Her season high is 35.

Topf, of Chugiak High fame, has already emerged as one of the team’s best all-around players.

She ranks third in aces [16], third in digs [65] and third in points won [57.5]. She is fourth in blocks [10].

Topf can also get offensive, having smacked five kills in three different matches. What’s more, she has only two attack errors on just 77 total attempts.
