Womens VolleyballKelly Musgrave [left] and Miquella Farris [right] of North Pole traveled a long way to play college volleyball.

They went to New York, where they are playing for Jefferson Community College in Watertown.

Farris actually moved to the area with her family because her father, who is in the U.S. Army, was stationed at nearby Fort Drum.

Musgrave wound up following her high school buddy to the East Coast. Ten of the 13 players on the Jefferson CC roster are from New York. Two are from Alaska, one from Hawaii.

Life is different on that side of the country, in more ways than one.

“One of my biggest thing when I moved here was everybody hitting deer [with their vehicles] and, like, being OK after,” Farris told the Watertown Daily Times. “The only thing that gets hit in Alaska is a moose and if you hit a moose, you’re lucky if you’re OK after.”
