The best punter in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is from Alaska.
Saint John’s Johnnies sophomore Griffin Toomey of Anchorage leads the NCAA D3 league with a 37.5-yard average and would lead it in air time.
He also leads the league in fair catches [11] and punts downed inside the 20-yard line [17].
Toomey, of South High fame, ranked second in the MIAC last year with a 37.1 average.
His longest punt this year is 56 yards. His career long is 64.
Saint John’s is 8-1 and is ranked No. 13 nationally after climbing five spots in the latest D3 football poll.
