Colter Lasher BasketballWhat sophomore slump? Most college basketball players have historically struggled in their second season, but Anchorage’s Colter Lasher is thriving for Houston Baptist University.

The 6-foot-7 forward is averaging a career-high 12.6 points after the first five games and has reached double figures in four straight.

He scored 16 points in a 58-55 victory over Rice, helping Houston Baptist beat its Texas rival for the second straight year after losing for seven consecutive seasons.

“It’s a huge win – our first road win and our first Division I win of the season,” Lasher told the Houston Chronicle. “We settled in, built a lead, and kept it.”

Lasher, of Dimond High fame, finished one point shy of matching his career high.
