The wait is over for Simmers after breakout game for Malone
December 6, 2014
Nobody was probably more pleased with his breakout game for Malone University more than Gus Simmers of Anchorage.
The sophomore transfer was yet to get going for his new team until a 13-point performance in a 95-72 win over Houghton in Ohio.
It’s the only time in five games that the 6-foot-4 forward has reached double figures for the NCAA D2 team. Last year he played JC ball at Palm Beach College in Florida.
Simmers, of ACS fame, made 5-of-8 shots from the floor and 3-of-4 free throws.
The former two-time Alaska 3A Player of the Year is averaging 4.2 points on 39 percent shooting.
