Wilson flirts with triple-double for Marquette University

Derrick Wilson BasketballAnchorage’s Derrick Wilson has a new role with the Marquette University men’s basketball team.

Just call him playmaker.

His calling card in previous seasons was defensive specialist, but now he’s getting more freedom on offense and delivering big numbers.

The 6-foot-1 senior guard flirted with a triple-double in a 67-54 victory over North Dakota, amassing 15 points, a career-high 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

Wilson, of East High fame, has pumped in 66 points 11 games; that’s more than his freshman and sophomore seasons combined.

A few weeks ago, he scored a career-high 17 points against Nebraska-Omaha on 8-of-13 shooting.

He has nine career games with double figures for the Big East team.

Wilson is averaging a career high 6.1 points on 41.7 shooting.
