LaVern cashes in on rare playing time w/ D1 SE Louisiana

Adrina LaVern BasketballShe doesn’t get a ton of playing time, so when Anchorage’s Adrina LaVern does get on the basketball court for Southeastern Louisiana University she usually goes for broke.

She maximized her minimal minutes in a 74-53 loss to Texas A&M Corpus Christi, making both jump shots and scoring a season-high 4 points in three minutes.

That might not seem like a big deal, but the role of a reserve is often thankless. This was her sixth appearance in 19 games this season.

LaVern, of West High fame, is one of only three Alaska women playing NCAA D1 basketball.

She scored her first points with 7:21 left in the first half, pulling Southeastern Louisiana within 21-15. She scored again with 23 seconds left in the game.

It was only the second time she has scored in a game. The other time came a week earlier against Lamar.

In 36 career games, the 5-foot-10 forward has totaled 65 points.
