Andre Laws BasketballSao Jose guard Andre Laws of Anchorage flirted with a double-double in a 77-73 loss to Limeira in Brazil.

The 34-year-old scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and matched his season high with 8 assists. This was his fifth game with at least a half dozen dimes.

Laws, of East High fame, is averaging 10 points and 4 assists in 21 games this season while shooting 60 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the line.

Sao Jose is 10-11 this season, putting the team right in the middle of the pack in the country’s top division.

In Liga Americas play this year, the Alaskan has been the team’s leading scorer at 13.3 in three games; he ranks second in rebounding [6.0] and assists [5.0].

Laws signed with the team as a free agent in 2011.

He’s turned out to be one of the best buys in team history. Last season he orchestrated a magnificent playoff run that saw sixth-seeded Sao Jose fall one win shy of reaching the Finals.
