Sherman-Newsome scores 28, helps Colgate make history
Damon Sherman-Newsome of Anchorage delivered another signature moment in this his best college season.
The 6-foot-5 senior guard bagged a team-high 28 points on superb shooting as Colgate beat Lafayette 95-83 in Pennsylvania as the Raiders matched a program record with their 11th win in the Patriot League.
It was his first 20-plus scoring night since scoring a career-high 30 points in January. He is now just eight points shy of reaching 1,000 career points in his three years at Colgate.
Sherman-Newsome, of Bartlett High fame, sank 9-of-13 shots from the floor, 3-of-6 from behind the 3-point line and 7-of-9 free throws.
He has now reached double figures in a team-best 25 of Colgate’s 30 games so far this season. The team will wrap up the regular season Sunday against Leigh with a Patriot League No. 1 seed on the line.
