The greatest women’s basketball player to come out of Alaska won’t be dancing any time soon. She won’t be playing hoops either.

Eagle River’s Kelsey Griffin of the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun underwent a successful operation on her left hip yesterday and could miss the 2015 season.

The 27-year-old played in the preseason opener against Indiana and chipped in 8 points and 5 rebounds.

Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, is the all-time leading WNBA scorer and rebounder from Alaska with 801 points and 683 rebounds in her five-year career.

She is also a two-time Grand Finals MVP and league champion with the Bendigo Spirit in Australia.
