Ostrander competes at Nationals for third time w/ Willamette
While her younger sister is rewriting the record books in Alaska, Taylor Ostrander of Soldotna is having a terrific career at Willamette University in Oregon.
The junior track star recently competed at the NCAA D3 Track and Field Championships for the third time in her college career.
She finished 13th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, reaching the final for the second straight year and clocking a time of 11 minutes, 5.29 seconds.
Her career-best time in the steeplechase is 10:40.86 at the Oregon Twilight meet in 2014. Her top time this season is 10:52.24 from the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. She entered the NCAA Championships with the 14th fastest time in Division III this season.
Ostrander, of Kenai Central High fame,won the NWC title in the 5,000-meter run this season and was second in the steeplechase and the 10,000-meter run. At this year’s NWC Championships, she took first place in the NWC in the steeplechase and the 5,000, and finished second in the 1,500.
She’s also a star in the classroom, earning a place on the First Team Academic All-District VIII Team.
Ostrander is majoring in Exercise Science at Willamette and owned a 3.77 cumulative GPA prior to this semester.
