September 15, 2015

Aaron Fletcher RunningAaron Fletcher of Anchorage helped the BYU men’s cross country team post a perfect score at the Autumn Classic in Provo, Utah.

The senior finished second among 55 finishers as the Cougars placed all five runners in the top 15.

The meet featured BYU, Utah Valley and Weber State.

Fletcher, of South High fame, covered the 4-mile course in 19 minutes, 48.5 seconds.

Freshman Dallin Farnsworth posted the 3-second victory after overtaking Fletcher in the last 100 meters.

“I didn’t think I was going to get him, actually,” Farnsworth told the school’s website. “I thought he was going to turn it on. I think he just wanted to jog it in. He’s been a great team leader for me.”

Fletcher helped BYU reach the NCAA Championships last year.

The runner-up result was his best showing of his college career. It was also his fifth career top-5 finish.

He will next compete this weekend at the WCC Preview at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
