Leg injury derails Wright’s promising start with Rice football
Just a few days after his finest performance on a college football field, Lance Wright of North Pole suffered a season-ending injury in practice.
The Rice University freshman receiver injured his right leg and a school official told me he is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Wright is tied for second on the team with six catches, totaling 49 yards, through the first three games.
He made a team-best five receptions in last week’s 56-16 victory over Wagner College.
Rice [2-1] is a member of Conference USA.
The 6-foot-3 former Alaska player of the year sat out last season as a redshirt.
He has pushed for extended playing time at Rice since the second scrimmage in August when he hauled in an 18-yard touchdown pass.
Wright will return next season and have three years of eligibility.
