Shryock leads Alaska contingent at The Rut in Montana

September 7, 2015

Matt ShryockOriginally from Montana, Adam Shryock moved to Alaska recently to bolster his mountain running resume.

“I thought I needed to go earn my stripes in Alaska,” he told

The 28-year-old had a strong summer in The Last Frontier, where he broke the record in the Turnagain Trail Run from Potter to Rainbow and finished sixth at Mount Marathon in Seward.

Shryock returned to his old stomping grounds over the Labor Day Weekend for The Rut Mountain Runs, a big international event that features four different races.

He finished third in the men’s 50-K race that featured a field of 315 finishers and challenges runners with extremely steep and technical portions along Headwaters ridge and Lone Peak.

Shryock crossed the line in 5 hours, 24 minutes.

“I still can’t believe it,” he said on Twitter.

Shryock finished 11th last year. Looks like the mountains in Alaska helped him conquer the highlands of Montana.

He was among four Alaskans to post top-10 finishes at The Rut.

Allan Spangler was eighth in the men’s 50-K, Najeeby Quinn was eighth in the women’s 25-K and Ben Ward was tenth in the 11-K.
