Toomey boots 100th career punt in style for Johnnies

Griffin Toomey FootballGriffin Toomey of Anchorage reached a major milestone for the Saint John’s University football team.

And he did it in style.

The junior punter surpassed the 100-mark milestone with a season-best 59-yard punt that pinned the opposition inside the 5-yard line.

Toomey, of South High fame, now has kicked 106 punts in 26 career games after recording seven punts for a 39.7-yard average in last week’s 35-14 loss to the University of St. Thomas.

It was his fifth career 50-yarder.

His career long punt went 64 yards in 2013. His career average is 37 yards.

Toomey has pinned the opponent inside the 20-yard line 40 times.

He has never had a punt blocked.
