Kenai’s Taylor Ostrander was instrumental in helping the Willamette University women’s cross country team maintain its grasp on the NCAA D3 West Regional title.

The senior runner finished second on her team and third overall among 133 finishers as Willamette upset top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and reigning Northwest Conference champion Whitworth to win the championship for the second straight year.

Ostrander, of Kenai High fame, finished the 6K race in 21 minutes, 46.3 seconds.

A day earlier her younger sister Allie won the NCAA D1 West Regional individual title for Boise State University.

This was the second team championship for Ostrander at Willamette of Salem, Oregon.

Her footprints are all over the program’s success in the last three seasons.

She won the NWC individual title in 2014 and was second in 2013 and 2015.

At the West Regional, she finished in the top-5 as a sophomore, junior and senior.

This year will mark her third appearance at the NCAA D3 Championships.
