How does South Dakota State football spell relief?

Junior quarterback Zach Lujan of Anchorage came on in relief of the starter late in the game and orchestrated a pair of scoring drives in the fourth quarter that led the Jackrabbits to a 30-23 win over South Dakota.

He entered the game with 21 seconds left in the third quarter and No. 5 South Dakota State trailing 20-10.

Lujan, of South High fame, completed passes of 34 and 14 yards to set up a touchdown run. On the next possession he set up pass plays of 25 and 38 yards to set up another rushing touchdown.

He finished 6-of-8 for 128 yards.

Last week he stepped in relief in the second quarter and completed a 14-yard touchdown pass, the go-ahead score in a 25-20 win over Illinois State.

South Dakota State has won 10 of 15 games he has started and Jackrabbits win when he comes off the bench. Bottom line, he is a big reason why the team has posted a 17-5 record since he’s been on campus.
