Scoring comes and goes, but rebounding and defense is something Aminata Cole of Anchorage brings to the basketball court every game.

The 5-foot-10 forward came off the bench to block three shots, grab seven rebounds and score eight points on 4-for-4 shooting as Hawaii Pacific beat Fresno Pacific 79-57 in California.

Hawaii Pacific is 4-0 in the Pac West and own a 7-4 overall record after posting its fifth consecutive victory.

Cole, of Dimond High fame, is tied for fifth in the conference with 1.5 blocked shots per game.

Her 7.2 rebounding average leads the team and ranks 13th in the Pac West.

Cole is averaging 7 points in 11 games, highlighted by a 23-point effort on opening night. Her .455 field-goal percentage would rank her 10th if she qualified, but she doesn’t shoot the ball enough.

She’s too busy blocking shots and grabbing rebounds.
