Janay DeLoach of Fairbanks saved her best for last at the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque.

The 30-year-old soared to a silver medal in the women’s long jump in an indoor track and field competition that pitted her against rival Brittney Reese.

Both won medals at the 2012 Olympics and are considered two of the top three women’s long jumpers in the country.

Today, Reese went 21-5½ on her first attempt to barely hold off DeLoach, who leaped 21-4¾ on her last jump.

Two weeks ago, DeLoach, of Eielson High fame, jumped 22-1¾ to win the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs.
