Smelker’s big game propels Boston into first place in NWHL

Jordan Smelker of Anchorage had two goals, including the game-winner midway through the third period, as the Boston Pride beat the Connecticut Whale 4-2 in matchup between the top two teams in the National Women’s Hockey League.

She also assisted on the empty netter that sealed the victory that propelled Boston in first place in the inaugural season of the women’s pro league.

Smelker, of Service High fame, is tied for third in the NWHL with 9 goals in 15 games.

The forward has collected 9-7-16 totals overall.

Boston has a 12-3 record, a half-game ahead of Connecticut at 12-4 for league honors.

The forward is coming off a championship season in the spring when she won a Clarkson Cup with the Boston Blades of the CWHL.
