The season didn’t end the way Kristin Smeaton of Dillingham wanted, with Southern Oregon University losing in the NAIA D2 national championship game.
But overall her basketball career couldn’t have gone any better.
Smeaton was part of a SOU senior class that won 110 games, the most in school history.
The 5-foot-8 guard played her last game Tuesday in a 59-48 loss to Marian University [Ind.] in the national title game in Sioux City, Iowa.
Smeaton, of Dillingham High fame, scored five points in 11 minutes in the national semifinals when SOU beat Goshen [Ind.] 84-69.
SOU finished 33-2 this season with the Alaskan playing in 34 games and having the best season of her college career.
She produced 103 points and 84 rebounds – virtually more than her previous three seasons combined. It included a career-high 13-point effort against Evergreen State College.
