Tufi, Page among RBI leaders for Louisiana Tech softball
One of the best hitting softball teams in Conference USA is fueled by a couple of Alaska women.
Anchorage’s Pauline Tufi and Taria Page are both swinging hot bats for Louisiana Tech and have combined for 35 of the team’s 131 RBIs.
That’s more than a quarter of the offense.
Tufi, of West High fame, is hitting .345 in 19 games and ranks second on the team in home runs [5] and RBIs [20]. She is slugging .655.
The 5-foot-10 right-hander is also a versatile pitcher, with the ability to start games and finish them. Last year she set the school’s single-season saves record of six.
This year she is 3-0 in four appearances, two starts.
Last year, Tufi’s 12 home runs and 45 RBIs both rank No. 3 in Tech history for single season.
Page, of East High fame, has started 14 of 23 games as a freshman. The 6-foot-1 infielder is batting .282 and ranks fourth on the team with 15 RBIs.
Together, Tufi and Page represent the last four years of the Gatorade Alaska Player of the Year award winners; Page won in 2014, Tufi in 2013, 2012 and 2011.
