Former NCAA All-American Cayle Byers of Peters Creek had a great start before running out of steam at the USA Wrestling Olympic Trials, which wrapped up today in Iowa City, Iowa.

The 213-pounder was the only Alaska man at the Trials as he continues his post-collegiate career with the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club.

Byers, of Chugiak High fame, won his first freestyle match 4-3 over JT Felix to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the quarters, Byers dropped a 5-2 decision to JD Bergman. He was elimiated via fall against Titan Mercury teammate Micah Burak.

Byers, a former All-American at Oklahoma State University, is a two-time champion of the Dave Schultz Memorial International in Colorado Springs, where he earned his Olympic Trials berth in January.
