April 2, 2016
Aaron Fletcher of Anchorage scored a big win for the BYU track and field team with his victory in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase.
His win came at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
“Whenever you have an event champion it’s a huge deal,” BYU track and field director of operations Ryan Waite told the school’s website.
“This meet is historic – it’s been around for a really long time and some of the best people in the world come and compete here. When you can walk away with one of the shirts that say ‘Texas Relay Champion’ – you kind of become a celebrity here in Austin.”
Fletcher, of South High fame, posted a personal-record time of 8:47.
It was a personal record for the BYU senior and he is expected to qualify for the NCAA West Prelims with that time.
