Vanderford unbeaten as amateur mixed martial arts fighter

April 23, 2016

Austin Vanderford WrestlingAustin Vanderford of Ninilchik was a champion wrestler in high school and college, so it makes sense that he would do well as a mixed martial arts fighter.

The 26-year-old is undefeated as an amateur MMA fighter after improving to 4-0 earlier this month with a three-round unanimous decision over Erik Herman in Ashland, Oregon.

Vanderford, of Ninilchik High fame, wrestled for Southern Oregon University and in 2012 won a NAIA national championship.

He won state titles in high school at 152 in 2007 and 160 in 2008.

Two of Vanderford’s four MMA wins have come by submission.
