Swinton, Oregon Tech golf team sit in eighth at Nationals

Tyler Swinton of Haines has helped the Oregon Tech golf team inch closer to qualifying for the final round of the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships in Silvis, Illinois.

Oregon Tech is tied for eighth place after the first two rounds of play at the TPC Deere Run.

The top 17 schools after Thursday’s third round will move on to Friday’s final round along with the top 40 individuals.

Swinton, a senior, has helped Oregon Tech qualify for the national championships for the first time in school history.

He sits in a tie for 99th out of 155 golfers with a 36-hole score of 157.

Swinton had been 38th place after an opening round 75.

He is the only Alaskan playing college golf this season.

His low round on the year is 70.
