Spink returns to independent pro ball, joins Winnipeg Goldeyes

Conor Spink of Eagle River is zeroing on in a major milestone in the American Association, an independent professional baseball league.

The 28-year-old left-handed relief pitcher needs just three more appearances to reach 150 for his career, making him only the sixth Alaskan to do so.

Spink, of Chugiak High fame, is in his first season with the Winnipeg Goldeyes after four seasons with the Lincoln Saltdogs.

He has pitched in 147 career games, including a career-high 46 last summer.

The 6-foot-3 southpaw has averaged 1.23 strikeouts per inning for his career.

Spink has a 1.80 ERA in his first five games coming out of the Winnipeg bullpen.
