Gabi Fenumiai of Juneau is doing her best to shake off a slow start with the Evergreen State College women’s basketball team.

Her first double-double should do the trick.

The 6-foot senior center scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a 67-66 win over Pacific Lutheran during NAIA play in Olympia, Washington.

Fenumiai, of Juneau-Douglas High fame, shot the ball well, sinking 7-of-9 shots from the floor and 6-of-9 from the foul line. The field-goal percentage was a season high and the free-throw attempts were the most of the year.

She is averaging 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds in six games, decent numbers for lots of college players.

But not for Fenumiai.

Last year she averaged 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in 25 games. She also collected seven double-doubles and set the school-record with 36 points in one game.

She came to Evergreen State from Peninsula College, where she finished her two-year career with 558 rebounds to break the previous school record of 382 held by fellow former Juneau-Douglas star Danielle Larson.
