From same school in Fairbanks to same D1 court in Oregon
Ruthy Hebard and Hannah Mattson both played high school basketball at West Valley High in Fairbanks, but now they are playing for different NCAA D1 women’s basketball teams in Oregon.
They recently met on the same court.
It was a special night for Alaska basketball, especially for the Fairbanks community. The Interior doesn’t produce a ton of quantity, but that area is awesome for quality.
The 6-foot-4 forward bagged her third double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds in just 24 minutes.
Hebard, a three-time Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year, is shooting a staggering .804 percent from the field. She is averaging 11.8 points and 7.8 rebounds in eight games.
Mattson, a senior and former starter, came off the bench to play 25 minutes in the loss to Oregon.
The 5-foot-9 guard has started 42 of 94 games and compiled career averages of 3.3 points and 1.7 rebounds.
Mattson has made 203 career 3-pointers and is shooting 36 percent for her career from downtown. Last season she shot her best percentage [.387] with her most attempts .
