Sims continues South setter legacy, named NAIA All-American
December 8, 2016
Kayla Sims of Anchorage was already the best setter in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
Now she’s considered one of the best in the entire NAIA.
The sophomore with The Master’s University in Santa Clarita, California, has been named a NAIA All-American for the first time.
Sims, of South High fame, recorded 1,024 assists, 238 digs, 82 kills, 57 service aces and 28 blocks this season.
Her outstanding season also earned her All-GSAC honors and the GSAC’s Volleyball Setter of the Week on four separate occasions.
The Master’s posted a 20-11 record, including 12-4 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
It was the school’s first 20-win season since 2012.
Sims is the second former South player this week to earn All-American honors, joining UAA senior Morgan Hooe, who was named a NCAA D2 first team All-American by the AVCA.
