Alaska’s Hale, Nelson among NAIA national stat leaders for CMU

Anchorage’s NeNe Hale and Kodiak’s Jerica Nelson are basketball teammates at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri.

They are also among the NAIA D1 stat leaders.

Hale, a 5-foot-8 All-American guard, is fifth nationally with 511 points in 25 games.

Nearly 38 percent of her points have come on 3-pointers while 87 have come from the free-throw line.

Hale, of Houston High fame, is averaging a team-best 18.9 points per game.

She has made a 3-pointer in a season-high eight straight games. Her season high is 37 points, one of 13 games with 20 or more.

Nelson, a 5-foot-5 UAA transfer, has shined in her first seaon with Central Methodist.

The pass-first point guard 17th nationally with 110 assists in 27 games.

Nelson, of Kodiak High fame, is averaging 4.1 per game.

She is coming off a season-high eight-assist performance, the second time she has done that.

Central Methodist is 19-8 overall and ranks 24th nationally among NAIA teams.
