Livi Schellekens of Fairbanks hit the trifecta with Dodge City Community College.

She will play soccer, pursue her dream of being an athletic trainer and have her best friend as a teammate.

Schellekens, of West Valley High fame, will sign her letter of intent Wednesday to make it official.

“Hopefully I’ll get the experience both athletically and academically to get me to the next level,” she told me.

Schellekens is a senior this year and was an all-league selection last season in the Mid Alaska Conference. She plays left center back, but said she can play anywhere on defense.

She will be joined in Dodge City, Kansas, by her best friend Alexis McKinnon of Chugiak.

“We are pretty much the same person,” Schellekens said. “She plays midfield and sometimes forward, so we connect both on and off the field very well.”

Schellekens is shooting for success in soccer and in school, specifically in interest to become an athletic trainer.

“Dodge City was a great choice for me because I’m able to get the key skills down that are needed for the next level and better myself by a lot of playing time,” she said.

“School is important to me because if soccer doesn’t stick with me most of my life, my job will be the next thing I should love and can’t get tired of easily. Athletic training interests me because I’ll still be around sports while helping people get better.”
