Doron Perkins

When Doron Perkins of Anchorage started playing professional basketball overseas a dozen years ago, he took his passport. But not a linguist.

Maybe he should have because over the years the 33-year-old has traveled the globe.

The all-star guard has played in 11 countries after joining Naft Abadan in Iran’s Superleague this season.

Like always, Perkins is a starting guard and one of the top playmakers on the team.

The 6-foot-3 veteran contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a 106-77 win over Tabriz.

Naft Abadan improved to 6-1 for the second-best record in the 10-team league.

Perkins, of Bartlett High fame, is averaging 13.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Those are all top-15 in the league.

In his long career, he has played pro ball over the world, including Spain, Turkey, Greece, Ukraine, China, Germany, Belgium, Japan, Israel and Italy.

Have jump shot, will travel.
