Jalil Abdul-Bassit of Anchorage is playing like the Most Valuable Player in the Queensland Basketball League.

Even on the last-place team.

The 6-foot-4 guard is the league’s third-leading scorer at 25 points a game and over the weekend flirted with triple-doubles in back-to-back losses with the Toowoomba Mountaineers.

Abdul-Bassit, of East High fame, collected 28 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in a 117-77 loss to Gold Coast.

He also played a little defense with a steal and two blocked shots.

The next day he amassed 30 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a 116-82 loss to SW Metro.

He seems to be his team’s only offensive option, yet Abdul-Bassit continues to put impressive numbers.

The former University of Oregon standout is averaging 25.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 16 games.
