Lewis drops three-setter thriller at USTA Grass Court Nationals

Anchorage’s Eddie Lewis reached the Round of 32 at the USTA Grass Court Tennis Championships at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island.

Unfortunately, he dropped a three-set decision to Benjamin Maxwell of St. Pete Beach, Florida.

Lewis, of South High fame, lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 for a chance to advance to the Round of 16.

The recent Eckerd College graduate was seeded ninth in the tournament. He received a bye in the first round and beat Paul Webster of Washington, D.C., 6-0, 6-2.

At Eckerd, Lewis posted a 66-59 career record, with 33 wins coming in singles and 33 in doubles.
