Jessee slams career-high 16 kills, named top female Hilo athlete

With the University of Hawaii Hilo volleyball team missing several key players, freshman Ashton Jessee of Anchorage was asked to carry a larger offensive load.

Then she unloaded on Dominican University of California.

The 6-foot-3 middle blocker slammed a season-high 16 kills to go with a season-high .480 attack percentage in the four-set loss on the Big Island.

Jessee, of South High fame, led the team with 9 kills the next night in a three-set loss to Chaminade.

She was named top female athlete for Hilo athletics.

Jessee has started all 19 matches and leads the Vulcans with a .247 hitting percentage. She also ranks second with 151.5 points and third with 107 kills.
