Newbould wins Baystate Marathon for second time since 2009

Brandon Newbould
Not by winning – it was actually his second win since 2009.
But rather his 26.2-mile time – it was the 10th fastest by an Alaskan.
Newbould, of Soldotna High fame, clocked a personal-best time of 2 hours, 23 minutes, 51.4 seconds to beat a field of 1,353 finishers in the Boston Marathon qualifier.
His victory in 2009 came in 2:27:53, which was his PR at the time.
The 36-year-old was grateful to be back in the winner’s circle.
“I had the worst injury of my life [torn groin muscle] a few years ago and I was telling my wife last night that when I won this race the first time it was, like, the highlight of my running career and maybe I should’ve just stopped then,” Newbould told lowellsun.com.
“It was hard to imagine it getting better. But it’s really special to me to win this again, and it’s a surprise — I didn’t know that I even had a chance to win until there was a mile left.”
