Valley’s McGregor, Koeneman named All-Midwest Conference

In the end, though, Wasilla’s Cash McGregor and John Koeneman found themselves on the same all-star football team in the All-Midwest Conference.
Both players were selected to the second team all-league team for the NCAA D3 conference.
McGregor is a senior defensive back for Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Koeneman is a sophomore defensive tackle for Lawrence of Appleton, Wisconsin.
McGregor, of Wasilla High fame, was third on the team with 60 tackles as Macalester’s starting safety. He also had two interceptions, four pass breakups, three fumble recoveries, a blocked kick and a forced fumble.
In a 23-14 win over Hamline on Sept. 9, McGregor recorded two fumble recoveries, an interception, two pass breakups and five tackles to earn MWC Defensive Performer of the Week honors.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder was one of six players named all-conference for Macalester, which finished the season 5-5 and tied for second in the North Division.

John Koeneman
Koeneman, of Houston High fame, led Lawrence’s defensive linemen with 41 tackles.
The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder had a season-high six tackles vs. Beloit and the University of Chicago, piled up six tackles for loss and tied for the team lead with 2.5 sacks.
Koeneman was one of five selections for the 2-8 Vikings – the most since 2012.
