Colony High football star Jarek Schultz considered a couple different colleges where he wanted to play football.

In the end, he picked Northern Arizona.

“All the coaches at NAU are great people and I feel like I made a good relationship with all of the coaching staff,” he told me.

The prospect out of Palmer signed with the Big Sky Conference team on the first day of the NCAA Early Signing Period.

“I’ve heard really good things about NAU from friends and family, it just seemed like the right fit for me,” he said.

The 6-foot-7, 230-pound senior was an all-league honorable mention selection at wide receiver and defensive lineman in the Railbelt Conference.

He said coaches want him to play tight end at Northern Arizona, where he will study physical therapy.

“I was considering a few different schools ranging from D1 all the way to D3, but NAU was the first to offer me and I really like it down there,” Schultz said.

His decision to attend college didn’t revolve around just football.

“My mom was the first person in her family to go to college, so for me to go and play college football is huge for not only me but also my family,” he said. “I’m very excited for this opportunity.”
