Wasilla’s Cheyenne Matson has full-time responsibilities on defense for Buffalo State, but her recent side job on offense has paid huge dividends.

The 5-foot-5 sophomore earned her fourth assist of the season over the weekend in the first game of a two-game sweep of Oswego State in Buffalo, New York.

Matson has been especially effective on the offensive end over the last eight games with a goal and four helpers.

She ranks second among defensemen on Buffalo State in six points on two goals and four assists in 20 games.

Matson, of Mat-Su Tech High fame, also anchors a defensive squad that’s allowed fewer goals than its scored on the way to an 11-8-1 record.

The Alaskan ranks third on the team with 13 blocked shots and carries a +3 rating for the season.

For her career, she has compiled 2-9-11 totals in 43 games.
