Chad Trammell of Anchorage conquered a competitive men’s field in winning the inaugural Skyline Traverse, a grueling 28K run along one of New Zealand’s most spectacular skylines.

The Alaskan was first in the race in 2 hours, 43 minutes, 16 seconds to best the field of 69 finishers.

Trammell finished more than 12 minutes ahead of world-class Spartan Race winner Mikhail Gerylo of Canada. He crossed in 2:56:52.

The Skyline Traverse trail run offers a nearly 6,000-foot vertical gain followed by a technical traverse across the ridge line of Mt. Alpha and Mt. Roy high above the city of Wanaka.
