He was already the top playmaker on the Aquinas College hockey team, now Steven Gustafson of Anchorage has been recognized on a national level.

The freshman defenseman and team’s leading scorer was named NAIA Hockey Coaches Association Defenseman of the Week.

He dished out four assists and helped the Saints to a 2-0-1 record last week to close the regular season with a 21-10-2 record. They will next compete in the WHAC Tournament in March.

Gustafson, of West High fame, has amassed 9-27—30 totals in 33 games.

He leads the Saints in points, assists and shots on goal.

“Steven’s production continues to thrive through intelligent puck management and power play time,” Aquinas coach Jordan Permoda said in a release. “He is just as good of distribution guy as he is a shooter.”
