Balsan runs to second-team All-WAC honors for Grand Canyon

Elizabeth Balsan
Two years after getting injured at the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, Anchorage’s Elizabeth Balsan returned and captured glory.
The Grand Canyon University junior runner took 11th place out of 70 women in the 6K race in Seattle, Washington.
That result earned the Alaskan All-WAC second team recognition for the first time.
Balsan, of Anchorage Christian Schools fame, crossed in 21:20 and outsprinted a pack that included runners from Missouri Kansas City, New Mexico State, Texas Rio Grand and Utah Valley.
She was the top runner for her team, which finished sixth.
“This is Liz’s second season fully healthy,” GCU coach Sara Slattery said on the school’s website. “She got injured at this meet two years ago, so, it was good having her come away healthy and strong, and having her be our top finisher. I thought she ran a solid race the whole way.”
