Danner’s scoring, Bowen’s rebounding pace Peninsula College
A couple of Alaskans powered the Peninsula College women’s basketball team to a come-from-behind victory over Portland.
Barrow’s Kuutuuq Danner pumped in a season-high 21 points and Anchorage’s Kameron Brown pulled down a season-high eight rebounds in a 69-57 win in the NWAC.
Danner had a hand in 10 of her team’s 16 points in the fourth quarter to lead the comeback, converting 4-of-5 field goals and assisting on another bucket.
The 5-foot-9 freshman twice scored layups in crunch time; first making it 57-54 and then 61-54.
Danner, of Barrow High fame, is shooting .534 on the season – the 12th highest field-goal percentage in the NWAC.
Bowen helped Peninsula win the battle of the boards 13-6 in the deciding final quarter. In addition to her eight rebounds, she added four points, one assist and one steal.
The 5-foot-9 freshman has three games with eight or more rebounds, led by her season-high 10.
Bowen, of West High fame, leads Peninsula with 5.7 rebounds per game.
