A mix of power and patience, Duffield among top C-USA sluggers

University of Texas at El Paso first baseman Kacey Duffield of Fairbanks showed why she’s one of the best hitters in Conference USA by flexing her muscles against No. 14 Texas Tech.
The senior slugger crushed her fifth home run with a two-run shot in the second inning of a 16-8 loss in Lubbock, Texas.
She finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a pair of walks, and has now reached base safely in 19 of her team’s 20 games this season.
Duffield, of Lathrop High fame, is having an all-conference type season.
She ranks No. 2 in C-USA in on-base percentage (.547), No. 2 in walks (15), No. 4 in home runs (5) and seventh in batting average (.408).
