Williams has become synonymous with winning in Portugal
Anchorage’s Travante Williams scored double figures, made a difference on defense and helped Oliveirense post another comfortable victory in Portugal.
In other words, just another day at the office.
The defending champions in the Portuguese League began their playoff push with an 87-62 win over fourth-place Ovarense, thanks to a typical excellent effort by the former UAF star.
The 6-foot-4 playmaker from Alaska delivered a strong performance with 17 points, five rebounds, two assists, four steals and a blocked shot.
Williams has become synonyms with winning since signing with Oliveirense in 2017.
His team is 58-6 in the Portuguese League, including a 10-0 mark in the playoffs after this week’s win.
Williams, of Mt. Edgecumbe High fame, is averaging 13.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game in 23 appearances.
Those are nearly the same stats he put up last season when he was named Defensive Player of the Year, Second Team All-League and First Team All-Import.
