Massachusetts Institute of Technology junior outfielder Sierra Rosenzweig of Anchorage and U.S. Coast Guard Academy senior pitcher Mackenzie Everett of Palmer brought a little Alaska flair to a NCAA D1 softball game.

MIT swept the doubleheader, with Rosenzweig starting both games in left field and hitting a home run in Game 1.

But Everett earned bragging rights after getting Rosenzweig to ground out in Game 2.

It’s extremely rare to see Alaskans face off at the D1 level, so when it happens, the moment should be celebrated as a sign of progress.

Everett, of Colony High fame, retired Rosenzweig on a grounder to third base to end a bases-loaded threat in the fifth inning.

It was Everett’s first appearance this season.

Rosenzweig, of East High fame, is a .314 career hitter in more than 200 plate appearances.

The home run was her second of her career in 91 games.
