Petterson closes win that keeps Columbia Basin in playoff hunt

Gavin Petterson
Soldotna’s Gavin Petterson closed out a 7-6 victory for Columbia Basin College that kept alive the team’s NWAC playoff chances.
The sophomore relief pitcher recorded the final seven outs against Wenatchee Valley.
First, he wiggled out a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning. Then he struck out the side in the eighth inning. Finally, he worked a clean ninth inning.
He now has 3 wins and 2 saves for Columbia Basin.
Petterson, of Kenai Central High fame, lowered his ERA to 3.16 in 25.2 innings with 30 strikeouts.
Columbia Basin hosts Spokane on Saturday in a crucial doubleheader.
Two victories would give Petterson and the Hawks an outright NWAC East Region championship. One win would assure a playoff spot and two losses might knock them out of the playoff picture altogether.
