Williams scores 16, helps Portugal team move closer to 2nd title
Anchorage’s Travante Williams continued his red-hot shooting in the Portuguese League Finals as Oliveirense took a 2-1 lead to move within one victory from capturing a second straight title.
He made 6-of-11 field goals and scored 16 points in an 87-82 win over Benfica in Game 3 of the best-of-5 championship series. This is a battle of top two teams from the regular season.
No. 1 Oliveirense has posted a remarkable 17-1 playoff record in two seasons with Williams on the floor.
The 6-foot-4 guard gets the job done in different ways. He led the Portuguese League with 2.2 steals per game. In the finals, he is averaging 15.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and made at least one 3-pointer in each game.
Williams, of Mt. Edgecumbe High fame, is shooting .472 from the field on a 17-of-36 clip.
